Founding practitioner of DYFIT, Aki Shibata, leads a weekly practice at the Rondo Community Library, each Tuesday through October 22. This practice will help us stretch to transform our internal self and experience the beauty of the Rondo neighborhood.
These practices are part of our St. Paul-based project, Commitments: Embodied Healing and Liberated Spaces, made possible by the Bigelow and St. Paul Foundations. Aki, who lives in Frogtown/Rondo, is excited to bring community residents and library visitors together through joyful dancing. She shares, “I really think DYFIT is peacebuilding through authentic expression in public space.”
CELEBRATE OUR RONDO RESIDENCY
WITH FOOD AND DANCE
Tues, Oct 22, 5:30-7:30pm
Dance at 5:30pm / Meal at 6:30pm
“Every time I dance I feel free and calm from the world and all the noises like the screaming going on in and out of the library. I love to dance."
It’s the 23rd week of our residency at Rondo Community Library. We reflect on what it means for this practice to make a long-term commitment to a community and the impacts felt both ways. We love these words by 10 year-old Najma, a patron of the Rondo library.
Come celebrate the end of this season’s outdoor practice with a conversation and a meal prepared by Vivian Mims (Rondo Greens cook-off 2017 champion) and vegan chef Armand McCoy! No RSVP necessary—all are welcome.
