Gabrielle Civil, black feminist artist and writer and long-time collaborator with DYFIT, has written the practice’s first comprehensive essay about what we are doing. She has spent a year listening to and reliving the experiences of creating DYFIT, from its beginning in 2008 to a culmination of development in 2017. She poses new questions and casts the practice to the far future, at the edge of our imagining. This is the first major contribution to DYFIT’s thousand-year plan.
Gabrielle is originally from Detroit MI. Her memoir in performance art Swallow the Fish was named by Entropy as a “Best Non-Fiction Book of 2017.” Starting in Fall 2018, she will teach Creative Writing and Critical Studies at the California Institute of the Arts. (Photo: Dennie Eagleson)
